ZAMBIA Revenue Authority (ZRA) Director of Administration Callistus Kaoma says Zambia still has competent contractors that can deliver big projects.

Speaking during the tour of ZRA provincial offices in Chinsali on Tuesday Kaoma says it was important for local contractors to deliver satisfactory results once an opportunity was given.

“As you are aware, the Zambia Public Procurement Authority (ZPPA) requires that any contract below K20 million should go to Zambian contractors. So this project is between K8 million and K10 million,” he says.

He says the authority was willing to give such projects to local contractors but that they should work hard to deliver quality.

He says ZRA decided to terminate the contract of a local contractor who was engaged to build provincial offices at a cost of over K8 million in Chinsali due to sub-standard works.

The authority has since re-advertised the tender to ensure that works do not stall.

Kaomais hopeful that immediately the tender are processed construction of the provincial offices would resume.

“We had a contractor on site but, the progress  was unsatisfactory, so in line with the contract we decided to decided to terminate the agreement. However, we are hopeful that we will get a competent contractor so that we finish the works because this project is very important for ZRA and Chinsali,” he says.

He however bemoan the lack of honest among some local contractors.
