MTN Zambia CEO, Charles Molapisi said, “2018 is an important year for MTN Zambia. It is the culmination of many years of investment in our operations and having taken MTN further in to the country, it is time for the customer to enjoy the benefits of this presence and investment. Of course, every day and every year is customer focused, but this decision has been a long time coming. We have always been a customer-facing company, taking on board the many insights and contributions of our customers and this decision to reward our subscribers is a natural step in our journey as Zambia’s leading internet and network provider.”

Zambia’s leading network provider announced the continuation of their ‘Topinga Uwine’ promotion which rewards their customers with up to ZMW 2 million in prizes, a campaign entitled ‘Matebeto’ which has led to an 82% reduction in MTN data prices with a number of other projects earmarked for 2018.

Molapisi, who had received the award for Most Customer Focused Strategic Leader during the Customer Service Awards earlier on in the year also recapped the year for MTN Zambia, which saw the network provider cement its position as the telecommunications company with the largest subscriber base in Zambia.

He highlighted the investment in fibre from Lusaka to Nakonde and other regions, the growth of MTN Mobile Money, which now transacts ZMW 1.5 billion monthly, the launch of tailored products such as MTN TV Plus, MTN Music Plus and the success of the MTN/ FAZ Super League which was the most competitively fought league in recent memory as well as the success of the Junior Chipolopolo side which won the U20 AFCON title on home soil as well as reaching the World Cup quarter finals.
