MANGANESE FIRM SET TO OPEN IN LUAPULA PROVINCE

SUYOG Natural Resources Limited says it has set aside USD $1.5 million as investment in a large scale manganese mine with a monthly projected production of 500 metric tonnes.

The proposed manganese mine in Mansa has an estimated 30 year lifespan.

Company Country Manager Shaitan Chouhan said the project is expected t start in January next year upon the Zambia Environmental Management Agency (ZEMA) approval of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA).

He said the company has already submitted the EIA Report and outlined the socio economic benefits that the project will have.

He said the company is expected o employ more than 200 workers.Chouhan said the primary onjective of the project is to export manganese and also ta into the local market.

He stressed that the project will also include the corporate social responsibility aspect and opening up of access roads.

He however said the manganese sector in Zambia is facing rampant illegal mining of which his firm in collaboration with Luapula Small Scale Manganese Association and Luapula Chamber of Commerce and Industry is targeting to eliminate.

  The firm which is a locally registered company, is involved in the exploration and prospecting of minerals with various mining projects within Zambia.
