NORTH-Western Province Permanent Secretary Willies Mangimela has revealed that gold deposits have been discovered in Mwinilunga's Kasensele area.

Speaking in an interview, Mangimela said the mineral was discovered last month by people who were quarrying stones for building.

Mangimela said the provincial administration wanted to ensure that formalities were followed by the companies that had been given exploration rights and had deployed 10 armed police officers to man the area.

He disclosed that Chilibwe Mining Company has been given rights to explore the mineral in the area and so far through its subsidiary company Kampoko Resources, the firm has deployed 100 guards around the area.

Meanwhile, Mwinilunga Acting District Commissioner Mwiya Thuleni said the discovery of gold in the area has led to the rise in population from 500 to 1,500.

He said the development has also put pressure on the area as people's fields are being destroyed in search of the mineral.

Thuleni further said government would like to ensure that things are done in a very transparent manner before an investor is brought on board.
