African Power Coal

African Power Coal is a Chinese investment worth a potential USD $2 billion with the aim of cushioning the current power deficit in Zambia and Southern Africa. African Power Coal wished to put up a coal mine alongside a thermal power plant supplying an initial 750MW to the Zambia grid with the potential of up scaling to provide 1,200 MW with the potential of building transmission lines to Angola and the DRC.

Partners Group assisted with the feasibility study in assessing the market, investigating in to the possibility of obtaining a Power Purchase Agreement finding areas suitable for coal exploration, how the transmission would be done, how power may be exported to other countries as well as finding out and ascertaining regulations pertaining to environmental compliance, health and safety and the welfare of the prospective work force.
